About our Manual Therapy Services
Manual Therapy, or Manipulative Physiotherapy is a system of skilled, hands-on therapeutic techniques and exercises used by specialised physiotherapists for the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.
Manual Therapy is officially known as Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy (OMPT) and physiotherapists specialised in this field have completed stringent post-registration/post-graduation specialisation programs in the field of neuro-musculoskeletal disorders.
The International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT) defined OMPT as “a specialised area of physiotherapy for the management of neuro-musculoskeletal conditions, based on clinical reasoning, using highly specific treatment approaches including manual techniques and therapeutic exercises. OMPT also encompasses, and is driven by, the available scientific and clinical evidence and the biopsychosocial framework of each individual patient.”
Following your initial assessment consultation and depending on your symptoms, your physiotherapist may recommend the use of a manipulative technique, normally in addition to exercise or other evidence-based techniques.
